Prompt library

Deploy, domain, and env vars

IntermediateDeploy

Ships the app to the host you picked, documents the variables, and keeps secrets out of Git.

When to use it

Use when the app runs locally and the next step is to publish. It fits Cloudflare Pages, a VPS, Replit, or the builder's host. The prompt does not pick the host for you.

Variables

[APP_NAME][HOST][DOMAIN][ENV_VARS][HEALTHCHECK]

Copy prompt

Prepare [APP_NAME] for deploy on [HOST].
Wanted domain: [DOMAIN]
Variables (names only, and whether each is public or secret): [ENV_VARS]
Health URL, with no login: [HEALTHCHECK]

Do this in the repo
- The build and start scripts already used locally, documented in the README in a few steps.
- .env.example with the names from [ENV_VARS] and empty values. Do not commit .env.
- If a public variable must ship in the client bundle, use the prefix [HOST] requires and explain it. A secret does not enter the bundle. Search the code for a value that looks like a key and switch it to an environment read.
- [HEALTHCHECK] returns 200 with a small JSON body (app name and ok: true) without calling a paid service.
- If [HOST] is static, do not invent a server. Name the output directory.

Do not
- Do not create an account, buy the domain, or press production deploy with my credentials.
- Do not suggest turning HTTPS off.
- Do not hardcode [DOMAIN] in ten files. One place, with a localhost fallback.

Deliver
1. Files changed.
2. The list of what I do in the [HOST] dashboard: build command, output dir, variables, the CNAME for [DOMAIN].
3. How to tell it worked: what [HEALTHCHECK] should show, and what a certificate that is still pending looks like.

If [HOST] or [DOMAIN] is still a placeholder, stop and ask. Do not pick a vendor.

How to run this prompt

  1. List names only. ENV_VARS is the name and where it is used. The value stays in the dashboard.
  2. Name the host. HOST is Cloudflare Pages, the VPS, Replit, or another. Do not leave it blank.
  3. Open the healthcheck. After deploy, the HEALTHCHECK URL must respond without a login.

Where this breaks

A domain and DNS are not proven by a file. The prompt splits what is code from what you do in the dashboard. Do not paste secret values into ENV_VARS: names only.
